Best Time to Visit China: When to Go & What to Expect
The best times of year to visit China are in spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November), when the weather is mostly mild, dry, and great for sightseeing. These shoulder seasons usually have the most comfortable climate across most of the country – avoiding the extreme winter cold or summer heat and humidity.
Considering China’s vast size and immense variety of landscapes, you can visit year-round if you are heading to the right place. In western China (Xinjiang, Tibet, etc.), the best time of year to visit is through April to October when markets are alive, flowers are in bloom, and the weather is best.
If you are planning on a hiking/trekking trip into China’s mountainous regions, the summer months (June to August) are your best options. The alpine wildflowers that blanket the meadows during these months make for stunning backdrops, the trails are accessible and the conditions are comfortable at most higher elevations.
