Things to Do in Laos: Temples, River Life & Timeless Traditions
Laos is slow travel at its finest. It is rich in nature, Buddhist culture, and warm hospitality. For many, it is Luang Prabang that is the main attraction wake up early and watch the alms givers at sunrise, wander around the golden temples, and savor the sunsets along the Mekong River.
When you leave the city, you will head south to the 4,000 Islands. The journey down there takes you through some astoundingly beautiful scenery….the slower pace and the chance to unwind become even more pronounced. Just bike around Don Khone or search for the rare Irrawaddy dolphins, or just find a hammock and chill on the river.
For adventurers, you can also trek through the hills northern parts of Laos and visit the remote and beautiful hill tribe villages and perfectly secluded waterfalls. Or you might be more of the history lover type and take in the mystery of the Plain of Jars near Phonsavan. Everything about Laos will encourage you to connect as a traveler, to the land, the culture, and a much slower rhythm of life….whether floating on a river or hiking through forested hills.
